It was extremely hard to rate this game. I so badly wanted to give it a 5 when I first started playing. After 10 minutes...maybe a 4 due to the poorly implemented control scheme. After 60 minutes - realizing I had almost finished the game - I was thinking more like a 3...way too short. Then I ran into the spider and the incredibly botched control system for fighting it. I was frustrated enough at that point to give it a 1. There is another struggle you encounter later on that is overcome by drumming with your fingers frantically on the screen. At that point, if I could have given it a zero, I think I would have. In the end, I gave this game a 2 because I think that is an accurate reflection of its current state. The sad thing is, the game has the potential to be a 5 star game. I am very impressed with the setting and theme, the voice acting is quite good and although the graphics arent on the level of Infinity Blade, they dont need to be as that isnt what this games about. The game at it best is beautifully evocative and emotional - which is a wonderful and refreshing change from 99% of the others mindless games in the the app store. Its not about fighting or racing around - it about imagination and exploration. So why a 2? Because the game in its current state does not live up to the ambitions it sets for itself. The movement controls make no sense for this type of games where a tap to travel system would have been much more effective. The interactions - if you can call them that - with the creatures in the game could have been interesting and engaging. Instead they are just a simple swipe in the direction of the arrow on the screen. And when it comes to the spider, the control system is so broken I almost gave up on the game. Its not that the spider is hard, the game just does a terrible job of detecting your swipes on the screen. And finally, the games length feels like the first chapter of an interesting story - not a complete game by itself. Having said all this, I am still debating whether to give the game 5 stars. Not because it deserves it in its current state but simply to encourage the developer to keep developing such unique and interesting games. I hope the developers sells enough copies of the game that he decides it is worth it to fix the bugs, improve the movement controls and add a second chapter. We NEED more games as original and creative as this one. With a little more time and effort this could be a 5 star game.
